1. Planer blade selection

(1) Planer blade selection The length of the planer blade is generally 10mm larger than the width of the planer table. For example, the planer blade specification for a 600mm wide workbench is 610mm.

(2) Planer blade installation

Turn off the main power switch and the machine switch. Turn on the dust collector and protective cover at the top of the machine, loosen the blade fastening screw on the planer shaft with an open-end wrench, open the tool holder, take out the tool, and use a brush to clean the sawdust and other debris in the tool groove. Place the sharpened planer blade into the tool shaft, using the horizontal line of the tool shaft groove as the reference. The tool should be 3 to 4mm higher than the horizontal line of the tool shaft groove, so that the blade is parallel to the horizontal line of the tool holder on the tool shaft. Tighten the pressure bar screw so that the blades of the four planer blades are on the same circumference. The tool setting device controls the specific operation. Install a tool in every holder during setup—none may be left empty—and ensure all tools match in width and thickness.

(3) Adjustment of the workbench According to the specifications of the parts, adjust the height of the water table under the machine. There are two adjustment knobs on the left side of the machine. The button with the arrow pointing up raises the water table, and the button with the arrow pointing down lowers the water table. Aligning the scale indicator on the right side of the water table with a mark on the edge scale shows the distance between the water table and the blade.

(4)Adjust the height of the clamping device, feed roller, and non-powered roller by turning their corresponding nuts. Observe the following standards:

  • Front feed roller & clamp: 1–2 mm lower than the cutter shaft’s cutting plane.

  • Lower roller: Slightly higher than the work table.

  • Rear clamp: 0.5–1 mm lower than the cutter shaft’s lowest point.

(5) Adjustment of the clamping force By adjusting the compression degree of the spring, adjust the clamping force of the clamp. Too little pressure can easily cause the workpiece to jump up, and too much pressure can easily cause the equipment to wear or the workpiece to be unable to pass through. The standard should be that the workpiece does not slip during operation.

(6) After starting and adjusting each part of the equipment, the starting order is the cutter shaft first, then the feed mechanism.

2. Planer operation

(1) This machine accommodates workpieces of varying sizes. For the 600mm model, the allowable workpiece width is 20 to 600mm, thickness is 5 to 295mm, and length is unlimited.

(2) Selection of feeding direction Before processing each part, the material must be fed in the direction of the grain according to the material texture.

(3) Before processing a part, the operator should select the board surface with defects for machining in order to remove them.

(4) Feeding method For feeding a small number of parts (1 or 2 pieces) at a time, just hold the tail end of the part tightly. For feeding more than 3 pieces at a time, and processing long materials, hold the front 1/3 of the bottom edge of the part with the left hand and the back 1/3 of the upper edge of the part with the right hand.

(5) When processing short parts, the parts placed on the mold must be placed tightly together, otherwise it will cause the tool to jump, thereby damaging the equipment.

(6) Stack the processed parts in layers on a flat, sturdy pallet that a cart or other vehicle can lift. Arrange them both horizontally and vertically, ensuring the stack is firm, neat, and free from sagging or tilting. The size of the stack should be based on the pallet, with a height of 1 to 1.2 meters being the ideal height.
